I’ve said several times that Maserati is my favorite brand. It’s an unhealthy and completely delusional love because I am painfully aware of all the issues and choose to tolerate them. Today I learned that the GranTurismo and GranCabrio are being killed off in 2017. No Alfieri sportscar, no grand touring coupe, and no super cruiser convertible will be sold by Maserati until next decade. They’re just gonna get by with the Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte.

It looks as if Maserati will continue to match sales numbers to levels of disappointment, both projected to be at record highs through the end of the decade...

*sigh*

Good night, Oppo. Goodbye, Maserati.

Meh, the Quattroporte was always my favorite anyway.

My soul left shortly after Maserati forsaked theirs. I am nothing but a husk left to bank roll someone else’s ill-planned projects. In abandonment I have ironically become a mirror of that which I dreamt of since I was a child. I am Maserati, existing in form but completely absent of spirit.

The new faces are nice and I still love the fact that it introduced the F154 twin-turbo V8. The 488 GTB, California T, and GTC4Lusso T are all better with that engine. Hopefully the Ghibli and Levante will blossom once they get their V8s.

No, Maser. You’re supposed to subsidize the sports cars with crossovers and sedans, not make them exclusively!

Let’s not mention that horrible abomination: the LEVANTE ...

but the Ghibli doesn’t deserve to die, even if I can’t pronounce it

I like the Levante. I think it’s the first time Maserati has ever built a vehicle that nailed its intended market position and brand needs. Like the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera, it’s going to need a second go at the design (though I’d buy it as is).

How many years did it take for Maserati to crawl out from underneath the legacy of the Biturbo? It got knocked around, owned by the French, their chief rival Ferrari, then they wind up with light controls from the Town & Country and the window switches from the 200 in the Ghibli once Chrysler gets involved, and Chrysler ruins everything they touch...lest we forget Daimler-Chrysler.

Well, here we are back in the 1980s. A Quattroporte which is only kitsch because it’s the Italian alternative and a small sedan to sell in bulk (a la the 420, 425, 430 sedans). The Levante is the only difference as an SUV because you HAVE to have an SUV these days, for them kidz and ur “active lyfestyle” as I’m sure my peers would say.

This is a real bummer :/ I know it had a radio from a Peugeot, apparently didn’t drive that well and have been around for a decade as of next year, but I think the GranTurismo is the most beautiful car of this century. If I had $100,000ish to spend on a new car I’d be on my way to the Aston Martin dealer for something used with a manual gearbox, then veer off and buy a GranTurismo instead just to look at it. For the record though, I think they’ll be fine. Maserati has been through worse periods of spiritual drought. *cough* BiTurbo *cough*.
